The Garden of Warriors

The rooftop of Casa Milà is one of the most famous in architectural history. Gaudí transformed a functional space into a work of art, where ventilation towers and chimneys become monumental sculptures. These 28 chimneys, grouped together and often covered in trencadís (broken ceramic mosaic), are known as the "garden of warriors" for their resemblance to helmeted figures standing guard over the city.

This surreal landscape, with its undulating paths and dramatic forms, offers breathtaking panoramic views of Barcelona, including a direct line of sight to Gaudí's other masterpiece, the Sagrada Família. It's a space that is both practical and poetic, and so iconic that it is rumoured to have inspired George Lucas in the design of the Imperial Stormtroopers for Star Wars.
